Every year, fires and other emergencies take thousands of lives and destroy property worth billions of dollars. Firefighters and other emergency service workers help protect the public against these dangers by rapidly responding to a variety of emergencies. They are frequently the first emergency personnel at the scene of a traffic accident or medial emergency and may be called upon to put out a fire, treat injuries or perform other vital functions.
The Fire and Rescue I & II curriculum includes several fire certifications: Mandatory, Firefighter, Firefighter II, Hazardous Materials Awareness, Hazardous Materials Operations, and First Responder.
Fire and Rescue I & II is a one year program earning a maximum of six (6) high school credits per year as well as up to twelve (12) dual credits from Ivy Tech Community College. This course is also a suggested pre-requisite to Emergency Medical Services.
