Program Spotlight:
The Culinary Arts pathway at Blue River is for any student interested in a career in the food service industry. Students will gain experience in both the classroom and the fully functional commercial kitchen.
Whether you want to work in a kitchen, design your own restaurant, or run a catering business, a Culinary Arts Career is a great choice for anyone who is customer service oriented, likes to work with food, and has the drive to succeed.

Chef: Why did you choose CTE at Blue River?
Nyomi’s response:
“I decided to join because I wanted to learn more about how the cooking industry works and there were culinary skills I did not know.”
Chef: Is there a specific skill you have learned while attending Culinary Arts here at Blue River?

“I have learned knife cuts and how to properly cut foods safely.”

“10 years from now I see myself helping my staff in the restaurant I own.”
Chef: Outside of cooking in the kitchen, what is a hobby that you are truly passionate about?

“Other than cooking the thing I am most passionate about is working with or helping kids.”

The Automotive Technology class provides students with hands-on experience with the skills and knowledge needed to repair automobiles. Students learn how to safely and properly work on automobiles. Students work with a wide range of tools and equipment to work on automobiles. Students have access to Mitchell where they can find service information, tech bulletins, and recall information for automobiles. Automotive Technology class prepares students for their future in entry level jobs and further education in automotive repair.
Student spotlight:
Jackson Bentz is an outstanding student in Automotive Technology. Jackson is eager to learn & pays attention to detail. Jackson works well with others. Jackson is not afraid to tackle most jobs, if he is not sure on how to perform a task, he is not afraid to ask for help. Jackson is pretty good with trying to solve problems and finding solutions on his own. Jackson has a great work ethic. He is always looking for something to do. If Jackson doesn't have a vehicle to work on, he will clean in the shop, put tools away , and organize the shop. Jackson will be getting further education in automotive after graduation at UHNO.

Through hands-on learning, real-world case studies, and career-focused instruction, students explore topics such as mental health, crisis intervention, family systems, grief and loss, and ethical helping practices. The program builds essential skills including communication, empathy, problem-solving, and professionalism while introducing students to careers in social work, counseling, community support, and human services.

Emma is a junior at Southwestern Jr. Sr. High School. Emma is a dedicated and compassionate student in the Social and Community Services program who demonstrates a strong interest in helping others. Emma consistently shows professionalism, curiosity, and a willingness to learn, making her a positive example of how the program prepares students to make a meaningful impact in their future careers. Emma plans to return next year as a capstone student, where she looks forward to gaining advanced experience and continuing her path toward a career in human services.

Congratulations to our Health Sciences CNA instructor, Cierra Harvey, who has been awarded a grant from the Wortman Family Foundation administered by the Blue River Community Foundation for CNA lab equipment and furniture upgrades. This grant will be of huge benefit for her students and program.

February is CTE month and each day over the next couple of weeks, we would like to recognize each program and a student spotlight. Today's CTE spotlight is our Auto Collision program.
Program Spotlight:
Auto Collision CTE high school class gives students hands-on experience with the skills and knowledge needed to repair and refinish vehicles after accidents. In this course, students learn how to assess vehicle damage, use industry-standard tools and equipment, and perform tasks such as body repair, sanding, painting, and detailing while following safety procedures. The class also introduces students to automotive technology, problem-solving, and teamwork, helping them understand real-world workplace expectations. By combining classroom instruction with practical shop work, Auto Collision CTE prepares students for entry-level jobs, apprenticeships, or further education in the automotive repair and collision industry.
Student Spotlight:
Brayden Rogers is an outstanding student in the Auto Collision program who consistently demonstrates a high level of attention to detail and determination in everything he does. He approaches each project with strong problem-solving skills and a competitive nature that pushes him to produce quality work and continually improve. Brayden’s ability to adapt, overcome obstacles, and stay focused when faced with challenges sets him apart from his peers. His dedication and work ethic make him someone to be proud of, and he shows great promise for success in the auto collision industry.
