Today's CTE spotlight is our Health Sciences CCMA program
Jayden Richards is currently enrolled in Health Science Capstone. Jayden says, “I chose Blue River Career Programs to follow my dreams to work in the medical field. My mother is a medical assistant, and she is my inspiration. I currently work as a Certified Nurse Assistant, I’m enrolled in the medical assisting program, and I plan to continue my education in health care after high school. My communication skills are a strong asset I have developed through my clinical experiences at Blue River. I’m still learning how to manage multiple tasks at once, but this learning environment allows me to critically think and determine what’s the most to least important tasks. I have learned that working with people is more than just taking care of them. I do not stress with residents or patients if they need further explanation of the care I’m providing. I know that this is a family member of someone who needs me to help them, and that’s what I’m here to do.”
The Health Science Capstone offers students an opportunity to earn dual credit courses through Ivy Tech and obtain a certification as a Clinical Medical Assistant. This is a one-year program open to juniors or seniors.
This afternoon, seven of our Work Based Learning students had the opportunity to speak to various business leaders throughout the community about their experiences in WBL and their plans for the future.

BRCP and Mr. Allen guided me as a lost kid and encouraged me to a pathway that put me into my current career. I would say to keep working hard and understand the meaning of grit. This will take you a long way.

We are one week away from our 2024 BRCP Open House on Monday, February 24, 2025, from 5:00-6:30 PM. We hope to see all current and future BRCP students. There will be 16 different vendors present and classrooms will be open for everyone.
The CTE spotlight today is the Welding Program and our welding student Hannah Dow.
Ever since I was a little girl, I dreamed of working with & saving animals in need. As I got older, I realized that I can’t take the heartache that comes with it. So, for the longest time I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do but I was sure college wasn’t for me. When it came to having to figure out what I wanted to do, I was still unsure until I saw Blue River offered welding class and I figured I’d give it a shot.
Welding has taught me many valuable lessons such as passion, patience, and work ethic. Each of these has helped me become the person I am today. Welding is a tedious process that requires patience. I’ve learned how to stay focused and persistent, even when things get challenging.
My favorite thing about the welding program at BRCP is the opportunity they hand you. They provide you with a great deal of options for after graduation, It has helped in guiding me to the future I desire.
One big goal I have set for myself after graduation is to go to a technical school. My dream school is American Welding Academy. After graduating from technical school, I would love to maybe start a business of my own one day!
The Blue River Welding Program is an interactive and engaging program where students learn hands-on what it takes to become welders. They learn structural welding as well as much of the theory behind welding. This includes safety, welding fundamentals, metallurgy, electrical principles, applied mathematics, welding symbols, and blueprint reading. Some of the processes we learn include shielded metal arc welding, gas metal arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding, oxyfuel cutting, and plasma arc cutting. Students can earn SENSE Entry Level 1 certifications as well as dual credentials through Ivy Tech. The Blue River Welding Program is a two year program.
Blue River Career Programs will be closed today, Monday, February 17, 2025. Today will be an eLearning day. All assignments will be posted by 10:00 AM in your child's Google Classroom for them to complete. Assignments are due by the end of the day tomorrow, February 18, 2025.
Blue River Career Programs is on a 2 hour delay tomorrow, February 17, 2025. There will be no AM session. Stay warm and see you tomorrow!

Today's CTE spotlight is our Education Professions program.
Shane Lawhon, a senior at Morristown High School, has a tremendous passion for teaching, particularly in the field of science. Inspired by several educators within his family, Shane has set his sights on becoming a high school science teacher.
Currently, Shane serves as a Cadet Teacher in the Science Department at Shelbyville Middle School, working alongside Mr. Scott Hughes. When inquired about Shane's performance in his cadet teaching role, Mr. Hughes remarked, “He’s a total rockstar.”
Shane's experiences have been nothing short of inspiring; he has shared numerous stories about stepping in to assist the substitute teacher during Mr. Hughes's absence, as well as the various teaching strategies he has acquired in the classroom. His dedication and enthusiasm for education are sure to make a significant impact in the lives of his future students.

Today's CTE spotlight is past BRCP alumni - Ryan Lochard a 2008-2011 student in the Automotive Services program
BRCP had a big impact on me exploring the trades and other career opportunities. Have the opportunity to experience multiple career fields at school helped me years later once I found myself in the job market. I'm glad that I had the teachers that I had at BRCP, specifically, Mr. Bruce Allen. He always encouraged my brother and I to try new things and encouraged our passion for automotive performance which we later turned into our careers at our own business. Teachers like Mr. Ray Schebler continues to have an impact on me years later knowing that current students are encouraged to follow their passion and consider being an entrepreneur. I would encourage students today to not be afraid to think outside the box and blaze your own path. Set goals and don't be afraid to focus on yourself. Make a plan and try to stick to it! If you fail to plan, you plan to fail!
Our CTE spotlight today is our Automotive Services Program.
Kaiden Seaborn is a top-notch student that always excels at everything that he puts his mind to. He and several others in the class are always eager to jump in and learn new skills and put them to use. Whatever he does in the future I am confident that he will be successful.
The Automotive class at BRCP is based around hands on and theory about working on vehicles. We strive to make sure and give the students every opportunity to learn new skills with up-to-date equipment and to give them the knowledge they need to succeed in the automotive industry. They will focus on Maintenance, Brakes, Steering and Suspension, basic electrical and engine mechanical and diagnostic procedures. They will also get the chance to earn ASE student accreditation and earn college dual credits while at BRCP.

We were able to celebrate our students and staff of the month for January 2025. A big thank you to Cagney's Pizza King for providing pizza for our luncheon.

Today's CTE spotlight is our Health Sciences/CNA class.
The health science I spotlight student is SHS, Junior, Ellie Keller. Growing up, she has watched from the sidelines as her mom worked as an ER nurse. She enrolled at BRCP hoping to learn more about becoming a member of the healthcare team. Through this class, she has found her niche working with residents at the clinical site. She has even gone on to work as a student nurse aide after school and on the weekends. She hopes one day she can follow in her mom’s footsteps and become and ER Nurse. Ellie says what she loves most about BRCP is gaining hands on clinical experience and the staff, who support her in her future goals.
Health Science year 1 focuses on helping students gain knowledge in the fundamentals of health care, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, CPR, HIPAA compliance, and much more. The highlight of the program revolves around the students obtaining their Certified Nursing Assistant License. The license requires classroom, lab, and clinical hours to prepare the students for the state exam in the spring. The students really enjoy the hands-on clinical experience at our local long-term care facilities.
